Establish the exact grave first
Care can only be prepared properly when the grave can be located unambiguously on site. Have the section, row and grave number, directions and preferably a recent photograph ready.
Clarify before work begins
- the right of use and consent of the responsible person,
- grave type and permitted design,
- requested one-off or recurring work,
- disposal, access to water and working times.
Plan paths and water
On grounds covering about 70 hectares, choosing the wrong entrance can add a substantial walk. Match the section and grave number to the cemetery plan: the Old and New Portals serve the southern fields, the main entrance is in the west, and further access points are on Marbachweg, Gießener Straße and Friedberger Landstraße.
The map lists 18 grave-care water points, all explicitly not drinking water. Choose one near the destination section and check that it is operating on arrival. One additional toilet is omitted because it is reported closed following a sewer defect.
Local rules
City of Frankfurt Green Spaces Office, Central cemetery district provides binding information about planting, memorials and commercial grave care. A free electric cemetery taxi operates for older visitors and people with limited mobility from Monday to Friday, 09:30–15:00, with additional services on selected holidays.
