Origins and development
Frankfurt Main Cemetery opened on 1 July 1828 to plans by city gardener Sebastian Rinz in the style of an English landscape park. Successive extensions enlarged it from 5.6 to about 70 hectares; Friedrich Rumpf designed the Old Portal and crypt arcade.
What can be understood on site today
A free electric cemetery taxi operates for older visitors and people with limited mobility from Monday to Friday, 09:30–15:00, with additional services on selected holidays.

This website covers the Main Cemetery in Frankfurt am Main. The adjacent Jewish cemeteries are separate sites; Hauptfriedhof Frankfurt (Oder) is in Brandenburg and is not covered here.
